Giving Back to Hospice in Many Ways

After retiring 24 years ago, Anna Rose Schannauer has been just as busy making a difference in the world as she did in her three decades as a kindergarten teacher. She plays the accordion, gives talks for church and senior citizens groups and hosts story time at the local library. Anna Rose has also volunteered for Disaster Relief Child Care for Kosovo refugees at Fort Dix, We Care Prison Ministry in Alabama and a medical mission in Haiti.

"I really have a heart for children and teens, wanting to educate and help them recover from problems and grief," she says.

One of her ongoing endeavors has been to volunteer and support Hospice & Community Care after a family member was cared for in the program. She reports, "The support I received from Hospice was wonderful-I couldn't have made it without them."

At first, she regularly donated to Hospice and attended fundraisers. Each year children make quilt squares for a quilt at a summer grief camp which is sold at the organization's annual Labor Day Auction, and Anna Rose started the tradition of buying the quilt each year and re-gifting it back to the organization.

After several years of her ongoing interaction with Hospice & Community Care, Anna Rose spoke with her financial advisor to find a way to continually support the organization. He recommended the charitable gift annuity, allowing Anna Rose to make a one-time gift that keeps on giving to Hospice & Community Care, while she receives fixed amount payments for the rest of her life.

Anna Rose says, "Making this commitment to Hospice is very important to me, as I want the organization to benefit from my ongoing support."
