Why Hospice Care Can Change Families' Lives

Bill KopetzFor Bill Kopetz, supporting Hospice & Community Care just felt right.

His father died in 1996 in Florida without the benefit of hospice care. Shortly after, a friend asked Bill if he would consider joining the Board of Directors of Hospice, and he spent time serving on the Development & Community Relations Committee, then two terms on the board and chaired the committee. Bill has also volunteered in other capacities, like helping at the Annual Labor Day Auction.

"Learning what I learned about hospice care inspired me to become more interested and involved," Bill says. "Hospice is not just another line in an obituary, it's a commitment to a service and an organization that provides amazing care for individuals and families during difficult times."

Extending Love for His Community

Bill has also been involved in volunteer work for several other local organizations, including the United Way, the Lancaster County Youth Hockey League and the Lancaster Day Care Center. He spends time volunteering currently for his church, St. Peter's Lutheran in Lancaster. He cares deeply about his community, and is dedicated to supporting worthy causes.

"My support of hospice has to do with the people I've met there over the years, my increasing knowledge about the services offered, and how grateful and appreciative people are when they find out I am associated with hospice," Bill says.

Along with his time and energy, Bill has named Hospice & Community Care as a beneficiary in his IRA. By doing so, the funds will receive significant tax breaks as they are donated to a charitable organization. He says as his account continues to grow, hospice gains the benefit of that growth, which is exactly what he hoped for.

"I'm proud to have been a board member, and remain an active volunteer. All of the things I know about hospice come together to keep me solidly in the Hospice & Community Care camp," he said.
